Redefining the Way You Perform & Capture Live Sound
Why Traditional Live Mixes Fall Short
In most live and studio environments, audio is mixed using traditional bus-based systems, where dozens of channels are summed down into a stereo output. While this has long been the industry standard, it often leads to frequency congestion, masking, and a reliance on heavy EQ and compression—especially when dealing with complex arrangements or large channel counts.
In a controlled studio, stereo panning and sweet-spot monitoring can help preserve clarity. But in a live setting, only a small portion of the audience experiences that sweet spot. For most, the result is essentially dual mono—lacking the spatial depth and separation that makes a mix feel alive.
Immersive Audio: Mixing That Moves With You
Nature doesn’t sound like stereo. Our brains are wired to localise and focus on sounds based on direction and timing—a skill called binaural unmasking. This is what allows us to hear a conversation across a noisy room, often referred to as the “cocktail party effect.”
Traditional stereo mixing collapses this ability. But Dolby Atmos lets us restore it.
By treating each instrument or sound as an individual object and placing it precisely in a 3D sound field, Dolby Atmos empowers your audience to experience the show as though they were inside the mix—immersed, not just listening.
From Studio to Venue – The GPS x Solotech Advantage
In collaboration with Solotech, global leaders in audio-visual event technology, Gatwick Production Studios has developed a fully validated Dolby Atmos template for the d&b Soundscape system—bringing studio-quality immersive playback sound to venues of any size, from arenas and stadiums to intimate club tours.
After more than a year of R&D and testing—with Dolby’s blessing—we can deliver true Dolby Atmos playback, not just “immersive” sound by name, but by technical definition.
We work directly with artists to prepare object-based Dolby Atmos mixes in our world-class Atmos-certified studio, using the original stems of their music. These are then output via d&b Soundscape systems, precisely tuned to each venue for massive, crystal-clear, immersive sound that puts the audience inside the performance.
Add Motion to Emotion
With Dolby Atmos Live, artists can even move sound objects in real time using a tablet interface—allowing for dynamic audience engagement and creative control previously only possible in post-production.
Pair this with GPS’s in-house visual and lighting sync services, and you have a truly multi-sensory show experience, with perfect translation from studio to stage—and back again.
